Castile Soap uses and ratios

What is Castile Soap?

Castile soap is an amazing product. A product that is versatile and gentle on people and the environment.

Castile soap gets its name from the Castile region of Spain. Traditionally, it’s made with olive oil. These days, it’s made with other oils as well; coconut, castor or hemp oils. Sometimes even made with avocado, walnut and almond oil.

Here at The Natural Suds, we make our liquid Castile soap concentrate with a combination of oils. Olive, Coconut and Almond oils are combined for an amazing clean and healthy soap product.

  • It can do the job of at least 11 personal care products and home cleaners.

Below we will break down some of the amazing uses of Castile soap and the ratios of dilution for their uses. These uses are with ANY natural liquid Castile soap brand. Make sure to always check the ingredients label.

Remember to DILUTE, DILUTE, DILUTE your liquid Castile soaps. These are CONCENTRATED soaps, a little goes a long way. Keep in mind that if you pre-diluted any of your mixes below, you are also diluting the preservative, so the shelf life will decrease. Use the pre-diluted mixture within a couple weeks.

Body Uses:

  • Face:  2 or 3 drops of concentrate soap on wet hands, applied to wet face.

  • Body:  one small squirt of concentrate soap on a wet or damp washcloth, applied to a wet body.

  • Makeup Removal: Wet face and lather several drops of soap into hands. Massage into skin. Rinse.

  • Hair: A couple drops for shorter hair or up to ½ Tbsp. for longer hair, either worked directly into very wet hair or predilute in a cup of water.

Bath:  Completely depends upon water amount, but roughly 2 Tbsp. soap in an average sized tub. (It may not bubble much, but still cleans).

Shaving:  Face – 8-10 drops; Underarms – 2-3 drops; Legs – ½ tsp; Work to a lather in wet hands and then apply to area.

Foot Bath: ½ Tbsp. in a small tub of hot water.

Household Uses:

  • Dishes (Handwashing):  Pre-dilute 1 part soap with 10 parts water. Squirt on a scrub brush and scrub dishes.

  • Laundry: 1/3-1/2 c. (80-120 mL) soap for a large load in a regular washer. Add 1 c. (240 mL) vinegar to the rinse cycle. Optional: For whitening/deodorizing, add 1/2 c. (120 mL) baking soda to wash cycle. Halve these amounts for HE washers.

  • Handwashing Delicates: 1 capful soap in about 1 gallon of cold water. Mix gently. Let soak for approx. 10 minutes. Mix again. Rinse with clean water. Gently press out excess water with a towel. Hang or lay clothing flat to dry.

  • Mopping (Wood, Laminate & Stone Flooring): ½ c. of soap in 3 gallons of hot water. Dunk mop and wring thoroughly. On wood and laminate, avoid excess water and mop up wet areas.

  • All-Purpose Cleaning Spray: ¼ c. soap in a quart of water in a spray bottle. Optional: For extra microbial punch, add ¼ tsp. tea tree essential oil.

  • Windows: 1 Tbsp. soap in a quart of water in a spray bottle. Spray and squeegee. Follow up with pure club soda, or half vinegar/ half water and squeegee.

  • Toilet:  Predilute 1:4 with water in a squirt bottle. Add ¼ tsp. tea tree oil. For best results, empty toilet. Squirt bowl thoroughly, sprinkle baking soda on the brush, scrub bowl, let sit 10 minutes, turn water on, flush.

The amazing amount of uses from a single product is something that mass producers of cleaners DO NOT want you know. Why would you spend all your money on so many DIFFERENT chemically laced soap products, when you can buy ONE product for all these uses?
